Access statement for dove farm, derbyshire
The following information on accessibility and disabled access, applies to dove farm cottages, as a group of holiday properties. Please see individual cottages, for further details. Swallow and Wren cottages are both ground floor properties. Barn Owl cottage is a two-storey property, with some features on ground floor, to improve disabled access.
Pre-arrival
Nearest train station: Uttoxeter 7 miles
Nb – this is only a branch line station, no facilities.
Arriving guests are advised to book taxis ahead of arrival time.
Nearest main stations:
- Derby 18 miles - London, St Pancras service provided by East Mids Trains
- Stafford 22 miles – London, Euston service provided by Virgin trains
- Nearest bus stop: corner of Main Road and Dove St, Ellastone (approx 400 yds)
- Bus service: 409 Asbourne – Uttoxeter (infrequent)
Arrival and car parking
The general location of the farm and cottages is level, with concreted public access areas. There is a car park adjacent to cottages, and ample level access for cars to pull up directly outside property entrances.
General access
There are no steps. Each cottage has a shallow ramp leading to threshold. Swallow and Wren cottages have shared sloping access onto a raised level area, 184 x 150 cm.
External and internal doorways are 82 cm
Power points and lighting
- Power points in corridors, living rooms and bedrooms are set at 90cm from floor.
- Kitchen power points are located above worktops.
- Light switches are located within a range of 113 – 115 cm from floor, across all cottages.
- Bathroom lights are operated via pull-cord.
- There is a variety of central lights, wall lights and table lamps.
Floor surfaces
- Mostly tiled, or industrial grade safety flooring (in kitchens) Wren kitchen has non-slip vinyl flooring. Swallow and Wren cottages have carpeted living rooms. Barn Owl cottage has laminated floor with matt finish to minimise risk of slipping.
Décor
- simply decorated throughout, with plain walls. There is good visual contrast between walls, floors and other surfaces.
Kitchens
- Worktop height: 90 cm
- Table heights: 73-74 cm (giving clearance of between 68 and 72 cms)
- Raiser blocks can be provided if required.
- Oven heights: vary from 87cm, down to 60cm.
- Barn Owl kitchen has a drop down door, while the other kitchens have side opening doors.
Fridge/ freezers
- Barn Owl cottage: fridge compartment above, freezer below.
- Swallow cottage: fridge and freezer, side by side beneath worktop.
- Wren cottage: fridge compartment above, freezer below.
Bathrooms
- Barn Owl cottage, ground floor: wet room. half height shower doors, 1 x grabrail.
- Width of entrance to shower area: 130 cm
- Swallow cottage: bath and shower cubicle with 10cm step up.
- Wren cottage: wet room: half height shower doors. 1 x grabrail
- Width of entrance to shower area: 72 cm
Bedrooms
Beds
- Floor to mattress – 55 cm
- Floor to base of bed – 25 cm
Outdoor garden area
Access outside, is via very shallow ramps. All cottages lead out onto hard surfaced, patio garden area with raised beds. Some decking. Wooden garden furniture provided, BBQ.
