Green living

We don’t pretend to be eco-warriors at Dove Farm, and we are certainly not eco-angels
BUT
as a family, we do try our best to live a greener lifestyle
and
as a farm business, we operate responsibly, with care and respect for the environment

Recycle Staffordshire Ecover Products

We really believe that each one of us can make our lives a little greener, with a bit of thought and effort. Like many other people, we hope that everyone working together, will eventually result in a significant step towards a sustainable future for our planet.

We are trying to carry forward this philosophy into the tourism side of our business, and would appreciate the help of our guests, in putting it into practice.

We do not have underground thermal heating, or solar panels, we wish we did! – but here are our commitments:

• The cottages and studio are well-insulated and double glazed.

• Hot water and central heating is run on combination boilers, so you only heat the amount of hot water you need.

• Heating is on a timer switch, and radiators are fitted with thermostatic controls.

• We use low energy light bulbs, where we can.

• We have showers across all three cottages and studio, with only one bath fitted, as another measure to save on water consumption.

• The patio garden is mainly hard surface, planted with raised beds and many hardy plants, that require minimal watering.

• Compost for pots, is largely generated from farm manure and our own composting.

• We recycle glass, paper and plastic. (We also provide bins for you to separate out cans, and would ask you to take these to a community recycling skip when you go out.)

We recycle certain fruit and vegetables (including peelings) and some bakery products to feed animals – but not everything is appropriate, so please ask us first.

• In the cottages, we provide eco-products alongside conventional cleaning products, so you have the choice.

• We put toilet rolls made from recyled paper in the bathrooms.

• We do not encourage the use of strong chemicals, eg insect killer, where more natural means will do (sorry about the fly papers in summer!)

Don’t forget, there are plenty of opportunities to support the local economy through the purchases you make while you are in the area, and we give you plenty of ideas on how to do this in our Out and About section.

Finally, by choosing to stay with us, you are helping us keep a sustainable farm and tourism business, and that in turn, is taking care of one small piece of British countryside.

Thank you.
