We are giving you a head start, with this selection of  lovely and local places to eat out,  around Ellastone, Alton, Ashbourne and Uttoxeter. We have chosen places which can accommodate larger groups of guests,  with ease.
Most local pubs and restaurants will require you to make a reservation in advance for group dining

Walk round the corner to this luxury country pub restaurant. Added bonus - you can leave your car parked up at dove farm. A mix of traditional and contemporary; serving high end cuisine. Regularly placed on many acclaimed listings, for best UK dining pub. Dinner for two? Perfect. Large party?  yes if you want “special occasion” dining. Set menus available lunchtime. Great place to meet up, on your day of arrival, prior to your check in time at dove farm cottages. Ideal for pre-dinner drinks, cosy autumn evenings by the fire, or for those lazy summer afternoons in the garden.

2 miles away. Popular with locals and guests alike. Informal. Adjoining annexe offers light and airy dining space for larger groups. Traditional carvery served on Sunday.  Limited outdoor tables for drinks. Booking essential. Parking across the road at village hall car park.

In Uttoxeter town. More of a commercial feel to this restaurant. Good for celebration meals. convenient if you want to have pre-drinks elsewhere in town, and then walk round to the White Hart, or move on elsewhere, afterwards. Lunchtime and evening menus. Lively atmosphere. Serves cocktails too

The Bulls Head

We had to include this one -  on trend, vibrant and hits the spot for a quality pub night.        5 mins Alton Towers. Great range of real ales, craft beers and gins. Quality menu and locally sourced where possible. Plenty of gluten free options.  Live music monthly. Function room for events and provides useful extra seating for restaurant when things get really busy.       9 seater minibus service is helpful, and dove farm is close enough to make 2 journeys easy. If you are driving yourselves, park at Alton village hall and walk down. booking essential

The Green Man

In Ashbourne town. Next to Jack Rabbits cafe. One for the foodies. Refreshingly honest, is how this pub describes itself. Newly refurbished coaching inn. Interesting menu. Stylish, contemporary interior. Deliciously different. Parking  on Shawcroft car park

Chain pub. Excellent value meal deals and 2 for 1 deals. Kids menu, with under 5’s indoor kids zone. Pizza kitchen. Plenty of easy parking.  Close to retail park. Good choice for an early doors drop in, especially if you have just done your Uttoxeter Tesco shop on your way through to dove farm?

The Stepping Stones – Marston’s

Chain pub. All day pub meals. Kids meal deals and outdoor play area. Rotisserie. Next door to Aldi, and Travelodge. plenty of parking.

Denstone hall farm shop and café

2 miles away from dove farm, this multi award-winning farm shop and café, is definitely worth a visit for brunch, lunch, or afternoon tea. Stock up on foodie treats and browse for gifts whilst you are there. Do please book for large groups. Afternoon tea at the end of a local walk, is a treat indeed. Sunday lunch menus. Private bookings in separate area sometimes available. Ideal  place to meet up, on your arrival day at dove farm cottages, before moving on to us, when your cottages are ready. Plenty of parking.

Jack Rabbits

contemporary coffee shop and café with range of drinks and all day artisan type menu. Proper coffee. Light and airy ambience. Many items are home produced, using locally sourced ingredients. Indoor and outdoor seating. Nearest parking on the "Shawcroft" car park, or at Sainsbury's and walk across.

Bear

More than just a coffee shop and café. A place for serious coffee lovers, with the addition of artisan food, craft beers and a contemporary atmosphere. You can move seamlessly from breakfast, brunch to lunch, or from a cuppa to cocktails. Ask for hot water to be served alongside your coffee, if you like yours to be really nice and hot. Take out service also available. Parking at "the Maltings" main car park, or next to Asda.

Herberts Tearooms
Tissington village, Derbyshire DE6 1RA - 4 miles north of Ashbourne  tel 01335 350501
If the beautiful little village and estate of Tissington is your destination, then Herberts Tearooms is a must. Quirky decor, good menu choice, relaxed atmosphere and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. dog friendly too. Seasonal opening, so once you get into October, check opening hours. Walkers and cyclists can be dropped off in Ashbourne,  (by the leisure centre) to make their way along the Tissington trail, while you drive round to Herberts tearooms and wait for them in comfort! Some designated parking close by - otherwise, park along the Tissington village lane.

Of course you will find the usual Costas in both Ashbourne and Uttoxeter - and an excellent  Waitrose café in Uttoxeter. Lots more little independent cafes to try in Ashbourne. Enjoy browsing antique shops, boutiques, lovely charity shops and gift shops, with such a choice of refreshment stops to keep you going.

Takeaways – you may have to go collect your order?

Panacea Indian restaurant. Not a bad curry. Only 2 miles away. Spar is just over the road from the restaurant,  for drinks and additional snacks and sundries. Some parking, or park on High St or village hall car park.
